Design Goals for the Windows XP, Email and Internet Video Tutorials
- FREE - Our video tutorials are not intended to be big Hollywood productions - and we are proud of it! Our Windows, email and internet help is plain and simple. We don't pay professionals to do the voice over's. That would be expensive! If we did that, we couldn't offer this valuable help for FREE. You might say, "Hey, these tutorials sound like a geek in his basement." Our answer is, "Yes, that's true, but the price is right!" FREE is good.
- Visual - If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much would video be worth? Our video demos show you how to work with Windows, email and the internet. You don't need to read hundreds of pages of explanation in a book or FAQ.
- Brief - In today's busy world, no one can invest a lot of time to learn about Windows, email or the internet in one long session. Each of our video tutorials are designed to take 5 minutes or less. If you get interrupted while watching one of our video tutorials, no problem! Simply come back another time and watch it again!
- Specific - Our video demos are designed to cover a specific topic and will not contain a lot of unnecessary fluff. You wont get a lot of humor and off topic remarks. If you want comedy, stick to the comedy channel on cable.
- Small Download Size - Even in today's world of high speed internet, video files can get quite large and take a long time to download. Because of this, our video tutorials don't follow typical training methods. Typical computer training will have 4 phases. First, the presenter will tell you what he's going to tell you. Next, he will tell you. Then, he will tell you what he told you. Finally, you will need to go through some sort of exercise to make sure you understood. All of this repetition takes time and would significantly increase the download size of our video tutorials. Our video demos go through the topic once. If you want to watch it again, go ahead, it's FREE!
About the Founder of Basics for Beginners
Basics for Beginners was founded by John Decker in 2006. In his 15 year career as a software developer, he has witnessed first hand how confusing and frustrating computers can be for new users (aka a newbie). After many years of answering the same basic questions, he decided to start Basics for Beginners. John started the company with a desire to help people better understand Windows XP, Email and the Internet.
And yes, that geek's voice you hear on the tutorials… it's John himself. When you start a company like this, you have to be a jack of all trades. Although the tutorials aren't glamorous and highly polished, please remember that FREE is good! Help spread the word!
